How to prepare for MMed Anaesthesiology Part A

A focused six-week revision plan

  • Weeks 1–2: Prioritise physiology, starting with cardiovascular and respiratory topics, then renal, acid–base, neurological, endocrine, and maternal and neonatal physiology.
  • Week 3: Revise pharmacology and biostatistics together. Cover drug actions and clinical trials, then practise interpreting study results.
  • Week 4: Work through physics, monitoring, equipment and operating-room safety. Revisit the principles behind measurements and common sources of error.
  • Week 5: Cover anatomy and clinical medicine, including the airway, neuroanatomy and common perioperative problems.
  • Week 6: Mix the subjects and complete timed question blocks. A 125-question paper in 150 minutes gives you about 72 seconds per question. Review why each distractor is wrong, not only why your selected answer is right.

Give anatomy, clinical medicine, and physics and equipment dedicated revision time rather than leaving them until the end. Together, anatomy and physics and equipment account for an estimated quarter of the paper. For a broader preparation strategy, see the Singapore MMed Anaesthesiology preparation article.
